Lawsuit Abuse Awareness Week Kickoff Featured Hugh Hewitt
On October 1, San Diego Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse brought nationally syndicated talk show host Hugh Hewitt to San Diego for a live broadcast and private reception to kick off Lawsuit Abuse Awareness Week. For the second year in a row, Hugh featured the topic of abusive lawsuits in order to bring national attention to the Plaintiff Trail Lawyer’s agenda of incrementally expanding the frontiers of litigation, including strategies like hidden earmarks and legislation to overturn national and precedent setting statewide tort reforms. Guests included Texas Governor Rick Perry Perry as well as local guests George Cole, Jan Goldsmith and Sam Hardage.
The event was well attended and Hugh lived up to his reputation as the smartest political guy around.

There was a lot of press coverage generated during Lawsuit Awareness Week. You can read much of that coverage here.
The San Diego Daily Transcript featured a series of commentaries during Lawsuit Abuse Awareness Week, Oct. 6 - 10, focusing on the impacts to small business, key San Diego business sectors and the importance of knowing where candidates stand on the issue.
It is hard to understand how some of the most egregious cases ever end up in court. All too often judges twist and distort the law to serve their own ends. We've all heard of "legislating from the bench" but how about "abuse from the bench" in the form of frivolous lawsuits?
The efforts of SDCALA (San Diego Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse) along with the efforts of other CALA groups within California and across the nation are beginning to bear fruit. It is a long and difficult process, but things are beginning to happen.
Sometimes it seems like the fundamental American value of personal responsibility and individualism has been replaced by the nanny-state and the courts. All too many attorneys seem to have replaced justice with raw greed!

And in other news
The staff of SDCALA have moved their offices out of Mission Valley and have gone virtual. The impact of technology and the power of the internet have made the need for physical offices obsolete. Not only does this make the organization more efficient, but results in significant cost savings that can now go directly to programs.

SDCALA is Committed to Education
SDCALA has an active community outreach and education program. Our speakers bureau sends qualified presenters into the community to help educate citizens about the negative effects of lawsuit abuse by unscrupulous attorneys, their clients and their accomplices in the courts.
SDCALA also provides community seminars and workshops for the business community on topics like ADA and other strategies that are used by unscrupulous attorneys.
Advocacy
SDCALA is Committed to Advocacy
SDCALA has an active advocacy program, providing assistance to those who are unfortunate to be on the receiving end of lawsuit abuse.

Support
SDCALA Means Support
When faced with a frivolous lawsuit, it can feel like the end of the line, but with support and encouragement from those that know the issues and have been through the process, it can mean everything.
SDCALA is committed to providing support and encouragement to victims.
Referral
SDCALA Referral Services
SDCALA has the experience and background to know the "good guys" from the "bad buys". We pride ourselves on helping those that find themselves in a frivolous lawsuit, to find an attorney that has the experience and knowledge to beat the "bad guys" at their own game
Hopefully you'll never need us, but if you do, we're here for you with a referral and support.
Action
SDCALA Means Action
SDCALA is active in the legislative process, lobbying and taking other political action to pass laws and regulations that minimize, or eliminate the negative effects of the legal system on justice and fairness. A system where only the attorneys win at the expense of the small guy through laws that should never be on the books, is just wrong. We're committed to changing that... one step at a time.
There is a lot of information on our web site that describes our action plan.
Thanks To Our Sponsors!
SDCALA would like to thank all of our fine sponsors for the Hugh Hewitt event which kicks off Lawsuit Abuse Awareness Week. Without their support and investment in the kinds of programs that can highlight and create awareness of the massive negative effects of lawsuit abuse, we would truly be at the mercy of the plaintiff bar.
Lawsuit Abuse Costs Billions
Lawsuits cost 6.5% of GDP annually, and in California, things are likely to get even worse as lawyers have their sights set on even more.
San Diego Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse is a grass roots organization of citizens that are committed to taking back the legal system and making it a justice system again. Read More
Support SDCALA
SDCALA has many ways for concerned citizens to become supportive of our mission. Financial support is the most direct way, but you can support us in other important ways as well. Read More
